three windows

I am plied wood, skin hardening
dermis fat muscle, capillaries
layers of sense evaporating
a wound, a shell

Forgetting of myself, my lips
and palms dry and chalky
suck heat from sidewalks
newly warm in spring

Strapped to my shoulders, my head
I am on a mill shuttled gear by gear
past the same three windows.
